Our History

OUR HISTORY

Our Club was founded in 1961

Amite Art Club was organized in 1961 by Mrs. Josephine Brumfield, Mrs. Margie Crowson, and Mrs. Merle Weigel, beginning with only 13 members.

It was formally organized in 1968 and named Amite Art Club. We operate under a non-profit 501 (c) (4).

MISSION STATEMENT

Our primary mission is to expand the appreciation of and involvement in visual arts through member instruction, exhibition, community education and promotion.

Purpose

To support our members with instruction, encouragement and promotion and a venue in which they can exhibit their art.

To encourage students, viewers, and artists of all ages to become involved in visual arts and the Amite Art Club through outreach.

To liaison with business and community groups that provide advice, new ideas and information about art and artists in our local area.

Members encourage each other to produce original art works. The club provides opportunities for community members to develop artistic abilities and awareness through workshops and an annual fall art show. We also sponsor weekly painting sessions. Amite Art Club meets monthly August through May.

We welcome new members.
